Lauren Book has claimed a decisive victory in Florida Senate District 30, ending her time away from the statehouse to reclaim her seat in the chamber. The 42-year-old Democrat secured almost 63% of the vote in Tuesday's election, leaving her Republican opponent, Hector Rivera, well behind in the final tally.

Rivera, a real estate broker based in Coral Springs, contested the seat in a district where Democratic voters hold a strong advantage. The geographic area encompasses the southern portion of Boca Raton located south of Glades Road, as well as the northwest section of Broward County stretching from Dixie Highway to the Sawgrass Expressway. Major municipalities within this district include Coral Springs, Parkland, and Margate.

The race became a open seat when Tina Polsky, the district's previous Democratic representative, decided not to run for another term. Book previously served two terms in the Florida Senate, covering the period from 2016 to 2024. During that tenure, she held the position of Senate minority leader from 2021 through 2024.

In a statement released following the win, Book expressed gratitude to the electorate in both Broward and Palm Beach Counties. She described herself as a mother and a lifelong advocate for children and families, noting that she does not take the trust of her constituents lightly. She emphasized her familiarity with the legislative process in Tallahassee as a key asset for her return.

Book's political career is rooted in her personal history with child welfare issues. As a 17-year-old, she testified before a state legislative committee to modify a law that had prevented her from accessing her abuser's HIV test results. She later founded the nonprofit Lauren's Kids in 2007 to educate families and schools on preventing sexual abuse.

Reflecting on her time in office, Book cited specific legislative achievements, including strengthening child protections, passing bipartisan gun safety measures, and eliminating the sales tax on diapers. She stated that these accomplishments were part of a larger effort to improve the lives of Florida families while maintaining a determination to address remaining issues in the statehouse.
