Escambia County has suspended charges for application and inspection fees related to repairs from Hurricane Isaias. The Board of County Commissioners adopted the measure through an emergency order on October 29, 2026, citing the economic uncertainty caused by the storm.
The waiver applies specifically to building permits, land use approvals, and development orders. Land use approvals include fence permits, construction in county right-of-way permits, driveway construction in county right-of-way permits, commercial sign permits, and permits for using recreational vehicles as temporary disaster recovery housing.
County officials stated that the ongoing economic effects of the hurricane create uncertainty for personal and business interests. The emergency order does not alter standard permitting procedures, and permits remain mandatory for all construction work.
Applicants must provide evidence that the requested permit or approval is necessary to repair or replace structures damaged by the storm. Acceptable documentation includes photographs or videos of the damage, copies of insurance claims, or other materials deemed appropriate by the county.
The fee waiver will remain in effect until further notice. The order specifically targets costs associated with Hurricane Isaias damage and does not waive other municipal fees or change the requirements for obtaining permits.
