Punta Gorda Airport is opening a temporary TSA PreCheck sign-up desk this November, cutting the drive to Fort Myers or Sarasota for local residents. The enrollment event runs November 17-20 inside the Bailey Terminal baggage claim area at 28000 Airport Rd, Punta Gorda, FL 33982. "We're excited to bring this pop-up service to our community, so residents can skip the trip to Fort Myers or Sarasota for enrollment," said Chief Marketing Officer Kaley Miller.
The airport is working with IDEMIA, the TSA PreCheck enrollment provider since 2013. Applicants can speed up the process by finishing the online application before arriving. At the appointment, travelers bring identity and citizenship documents, have fingerprints and a photo taken, and pay a $79.75 application fee. Approved applicants receive a five-year membership. Most people get a Known Traveler Number within three to five days after the appointment; that number must be added to flight bookings to use the service.
TSA PreCheck launched in October 2011 for low-risk travelers. Members use dedicated screening lanes at more than 200 U.S. airports, and 99% of users wait under 10 minutes in line. Shoes, belts, and light jackets stay on, and laptops and liquids remain in bags.
Travelers who miss the PGD event can still apply online and schedule at one of IDEMIA's 500-plus enrollment centers nationwide, starting at tsaenrollmentbyidemia.tsa.dhs.gov.
The Punta Gorda event is scheduled for November 17-20.
