David Langston, a 41-year-old Goldsboro mechanic, died after his motorcycle collided with a car traveling in the opposite direction on US-70. The crash occurred in the westbound lanes near North William Street, where Langston was riding at the time of the accident.
Goldsboro police identified the driver as Edward Stewart, 83, of Goldsboro. Authorities charged Stewart with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle, reckless driving, and driving the wrong way on a dual-lane highway. Stewart is scheduled to appear in court in December.
Langston’s mother, Peggy Craft, described her son as a dedicated provider for his 10-year-old son, Dylan. Craft stated that Langston loved his son with all his heart and spent as much time with him as possible. She noted that Langston would give the shirt off his back to help those in need.
Craft said Langston was known in the community for his positive attitude and generous spirit. She emphasized that he never hesitated to assist others and worked hard to support his family. Now that he is gone, Craft aims to ensure Dylan understands who his father was and how deeply he was loved by the community.
Craft confirmed that Dylan has a large support system in place to help him cope. A GoFundMe page has also been established to assist the family with expenses related to Langston’s passing.
The incident has left Langston’s family mourning the loss of a man they described as the best person you could ever meet. The crash occurred on a major highway where drivers were traveling in the wrong direction, leading to the specific charges filed against the driver.
