Daniel Yerty fled in a stolen vehicle after strangling and stabbing a woman during a dispute inside their shared Tampa home. Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office deputies captured him on foot nearby shortly after the violence ended.
The incident occurred on Wednesday in a residence on the 7000 block of East 19th Avenue. Investigators stated that Yerty, 36, and the woman began arguing verbally. The conflict escalated when Yerty strangled the woman and stabbed her multiple times in the neck and hands. He then drove away in her vehicle.
Deputies located the woman with several stab wounds and transported her to a local hospital. Medical officials report she remains in stable condition. While officers investigated the crime scene, they spotted a man on foot who matched Yerty's description. They verified his identity and placed him in custody.
Sheriff Chad Chronister commented on the speed of the arrest in a statement. "This domestic abuser was in handcuffs within hours of his violent attack," Chronister said. He added that the agency's Domestic Violence Unit would continue pursuing individuals involved in such behavior.
Yerty now faces four charges. Prosecutors are seeking first-degree attempted murder, burglary of a dwelling with assault or battery, domestic battery by strangulation, and grand theft of a motor vehicle. Investigators have not yet disclosed the specific reason for the initial verbal argument between the two parties.
