Volodymyr Zelenskyy told reporters he is calm regarding Donald Trump's calls for Ukrainian elections.

Zelenskyy stated that freedom of speech applies in both Ukraine and the United States. He noted that Trump may speak freely about him personally. However, when Trump comments on Ukraine, Zelenskyy responds because he has a duty to defend his country.

The president explained that careful diplomacy requires time. He said that if a nation has enough anti-ballistic missiles, it can send quiet signals. But if supplies are cut off or diesel is scarce, that patience disappears.

Zelenskyy described the current situation as living from one night to the next. He pointed to constant daytime attacks and a shortage of defensive missiles. In those conditions, he said, there is no time for caution. He chose to speak directly so the problem is noticed and resolved.

Zelenskyy maintained that his relationship with Trump remains constructive. He recalled holding excellent meetings with the US president and his team. He added that constructive dialogue does not mean ignoring destructive actions.

He emphasized that he says this openly. The president linked his rhetorical style to the immediate military pressures facing Ukraine. He rejected the idea that he needs to soften his tone toward Washington.

Zelenskyy clarified that his approach is a practical choice rather than a personal preference. He cited the need to address defense gaps as the primary driver for his direct speech.

He concluded the briefing by reiterating that he is unfazed by Trump's statements. The president viewed the remarks as part of normal political discourse in both nations.
