Brewers bullpen coach Charlie Greene is bringing a protective cup to the World Series that displays the logos of two different professional teams. The item is tucked into the Milwaukee clubhouse and is not part of the standard uniform. Greene explained that he wears the cup as a regular part of his gear during games.
The cup features the number 88 and the Brewers logo on the top section. The bottom section displays the number 85 and the logo of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The design was created by Diamond MMA. Greene noted that his own number is placed above his son's number on the equipment.
The dual branding stems from a family connection. Greene's son, Garrett Greene, is currently a wide receiver on the Buccaneers practice squad. Charlie Greene has served as a coach within the Milwaukee organization for 22 years. The arrangement allows the father to carry a representation of his son's football career while preparing for baseball's postseason.
Garrett Greene is attempting to secure a spot on the active roster for the Buccaneers. He recently switched positions from quarterback to wide receiver. Charlie Greene said the transition at the professional level is difficult. He stated that his son has performed well during the change and is enjoying his time with the team's players.
The Greenes have coordinated their schedules to allow Garrett to watch games in Milwaukee. Charlie Greene said his son has known the Brewers for his entire life. He added that the team is the only one Garrett has followed closely since his childhood.
The protective cup serves as a physical link between the two careers. Charlie Greene described the setup as a fun aspect of his routine. He emphasized that the equipment represents both the Brewers and the Buccaneers simultaneously during the World Series.
