Watson Returns to Field Midgame After Ambulance Trip

Green Bay Packers wide receiver Christian Watson returned to the field during the third quarter of Thursday night's game after leaving the stadium in an ambulance. The 27-year-old receiver suffered a chest injury while playing against the Carolina Panthers in Week 8.

Watson was taken to the hospital after catching a 53-yard pass with nine minutes remaining in the second quarter. Broadcast cameras captured him leaving Lambeau Field in an ambulance shortly after arriving on the sideline. He returned to the stadium in another ambulance midway through the third quarter, still wearing his full uniform including shoulder pads. The home crowd gave him a standing ovation as he ran back onto the field.

The receiver had recorded six receptions for 100 yards before the injury. He added two more catches for 13 yards after returning to the game. His final play was decisive in the closing minutes. Carolina turned the ball over on downs while trailing 27-19. The Panthers' defense forced a third-and-2 situation for Green Bay with two and a half minutes left on the clock.

Watson completed a seven-yard gain on that third-and-2 play. Green Bay then controlled the clock, handing the ball back to Carolina with 22 seconds remaining. The Panthers were unable to score in the final possession, resulting in a 27-19 loss for the visiting team.

The Panthers struggled offensively throughout the contest, primarily due to protection issues for quarterback Bryce Young. Young faced pressure on 22 dropbacks, a career high for him. He was sacked six times. Several other throws were rushed due to breakdowns in the offensive line. Green Bay consistently penetrated the backfield despite limited designed blitzes.

Young threw one interception during the game. A defensive lineman batted the pass in the air at the line of scrimmage. The Panthers face the Denver Broncos in Week 9 in Charlotte. Denver enters that matchup tied for the NFL lead in sacks.
