The St. Louis Blues entered Thursday night's matchup against the Boston Bruins with a 0-3-3 record in their last six home games against that opponent. That streak stretched back to Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Final on June 3, 2019. The Blues broke the trend with a 4-1 win.
Philip Broberg and Robert Thomas each recorded one goal and two assists for St. Louis. Broberg opened the second period with a wrist shot from the top of the slot at 5:17. The play came off a pass from Connor McMichael behind the net. Thomas extended the lead to 3-1 at 12:08 of the same period. He took the puck from Justin Barron at the blue line and fired a high wrist shot past goaltender Jeremy Swayman.
Jake Neighbours added a power-play goal at 12:42 of the third period. Jimmy Snuggerud had tied the game earlier at 15:43 of the first period. His one-timer from the left faceoff circle snapped a scoreless drought that had lasted 138 minutes and 38 seconds. Thomas assisted on that goal, passing the puck to Brian Sutter for the sole possession of fourth place on the Blues franchise assist list.
Joel Hofer made 31 saves for St. Louis. James Hagens scored the only goal for Boston. He deflected a shot by Casey Mittelstadt to take a 1-0 lead at 5:28 of the first period. Swayman stopped 14 shots in the loss.
Both teams return to action on Saturday. The Bruins will host the Chicago Blackhawks. The Blues travel to Detroit to face the Red Wings.
