The Seattle Seahawks defeated the Kansas City Chiefs 27-19 on Sunday night, ending the Chiefs' perfect start to the 2026 season. The victory marked the first loss for Kansas City in the 2026 NFL campaign. Seattle secured the win in its own stadium, snapping a recent slump for the local team while capping a busy Week 7 slate that began in Paris.
Jaxon Smith-Njigba was the standout performer for Seattle. He finished the game with 129 receiving yards in the first half alone, the most in any half of his career. His season totals now stand at 867 receiving yards and eight touchdowns. According to ESPN Research, he is the first player in the Super Bowl era to reach 850 receiving yards and eight receiving touchdowns in a team's first seven games of a season.
Sam Darnold started the game strongly, completing 13 of his first 17 passes for 178 yards and a touchdown. However, he threw an interception late in the first half into traffic in the end zone. That was his eighth interception over the previous five games. For the full contest, Darnold completed 20 of 28 passes for 257 yards. He was not sacked, a marked improvement from the five sacks he took in each of the two prior games.
The Chiefs struggled to generate passing yards. Their receiving corps, including Xavier Worthy, Cyrus Allen, Justin Watson, Andrew Armstrong, and Jalen Royals, combined for only six receptions for 39 yards. Rashee Rice missed the game with a strained right hamstring, while Tyquan Thornton is on injured reserve following ankle surgery. General Manager Brett Veach faces questions about the depth of the receiving corps ahead of the November 10 trade deadline.
Kenneth Walker III, who led the league with 665 rushing yards entering the game, was held in check by Seattle's defense. The Seahawks played with two deep safeties for much of the game, limiting Walker to 36 yards on 14 carries. He did not gain 10 yards on a single rush. Walker became the first Super Bowl MVP to play his former team the next season.
Patrick Mahomes posted a season-low scoring output in fantasy terms, throwing for only 165 yards. He has exceeded 250 passing yards in just one of his past four games and has not thrown a touchdown in his last two. The Chiefs will face the Denver Broncos next Sunday at 4:25 p.m. ET.
Smith-Njigba cited the team's resilience in the locker room. He noted that the group fought with a brotherhood mentality. The Seahawks will play the Bears on November 2 at 8:15 p.m. ET.
