The Jacksonville Jaguars hold a three-game lead in the AFC South after eight weeks, a position they have not occupied since 1999. The team secured that advantage with a decisive victory over the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday in Jacksonville.
Playing in the rain, the Jaguars defeated the rebuilding Colts 42-7 to extend their home winning streak against Indianapolis to 12 games. The margin of victory left little doubt about the outcome, as Jacksonville established a 28-0 lead before the third quarter began.
Trevor Lawrence completed 10 of 14 passes for 210 yards and three touchdowns in his first game back from a bye. He directed a 98-yard scoring drive on the opening possession, finding Brian Thomas Jr. alone in the end zone for the first score. Lawrence also connected with Bhayshul Tuten on a third-quarter screen pass and rookie Nate Boerkircher on a 31-yard strike in the first half.
Lawrence left the field before the fourth quarter, watching the final 15 minutes from the sideline. He noted that strong teams do not focus on their divisional standing during November. The Jaguars have won seven consecutive regular-season games at home, outscoring opponents 271-75 in those contests.
Bhayshul Tuten had a career day with 104 rushing yards and 55 receiving yards, both personal bests. He added a 39-yard rushing touchdown where he broke three tackles. Rayuan Lane returned an interception 92 yards for a score with 10 seconds left in the second half, sealing the early blowout.
The Jaguars’ defense limited Indianapolis’ offense to 7 points, holding running back Jonathan Taylor to 23 yards on eight carries. Taylor also fumbled on a botched trick play. He described the loss as an old-fashioned butt whooping, noting that the Jaguars kicked Indianapolis’ teeth in. Taylor had not rushed for over 100 yards against Jacksonville since the 2024 regular-season finale.
The Colts have undergone major roster changes recently, trading defensive tackle DeForest Buckner and guard Quenton Nelson to start a rebuild. They also fired general manager Chris Ballard last month and are reportedly open to trading Taylor. The last time Indianapolis won at EverBank Stadium was in 2014.
A bright spot for Jacksonville was the return of the team’s Bold City rivalry uniforms, which they wore for the first time in a regular-season contest. However, the defense took a hit when nose tackle DaVon Hamilton suffered a right knee injury in the second quarter.
Hamilton was ruled out minutes after a trainer called for a cart to take him to the locker room. Coach Liam Coen called the loss extremely difficult, praising Hamilton as a better human and competitor. The injury may test Jacksonville’s run defense in upcoming games.
