Dr. Shawn Clark, a Mobile neurosurgeon charged with producing and possessing child pornography, was found dead on Monday afternoon. Police responded to 6901 Airport Boulevard, where they discovered Clark inside a vehicle. Authorities stated that the death does not currently appear to be a criminal case, but an autopsy will be performed to determine the cause.
Clark’s death occurred ahead of his scheduled court appearances later this month. The former surgeon had previously survived a suicide attempt while in custody at the Baldwin County Jail in mid-September. His medical license had been suspended during the pendency of the charges.
The charges against Clark included five counts of production and five counts of possession of child pornography in Mobile County. In Baldwin County, he faced four additional counts of possession. He was first arrested on a grand jury indictment on Friday, October 30, and released on a signature bond. Prior to that, he had been released from the Baldwin County Jail on October 10.
Mobile police confirmed that an autopsy is underway. The investigation into the circumstances of his death is ongoing, with officials continuing to review the scene and preliminary findings.
