A lineup of Halloween-themed shows and tribute acts competes for attention across Tampa Bay starting Thursday, with prices ranging from free admission to $120. The schedule puts an Elvis impersonator, a video game orchestra, a Grateful Dead tribute band, a funk act, a techno DJ and a jazz composer on stages within 30 miles of each other over four nights.
Clownvis Presley, billed as the King of Clowns, opens the run at 8 p.m. Thursday at Skipper's Smokehouse on Skipper Road in Tampa. The performer mixes Elvis Presley impersonation with stand-up comedy and magic tricks, and has appeared on America's Got Talent. LA Weekly called him better than the real Elvis. Tickets are $20 and the show is 21 and over.
Friday belongs to Sonic Live in Concert at the Mahaffey Theater in St. Petersburg, a 35th anniversary program for the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise. A live ensemble of rock musicians, electronics players and vocalists performs instrumental arrangements spanning the Genesis era to the present. The 8 p.m. show runs $35 to $120.
Saturday splits between two rooms. Uncle John's Band plays a free Grateful Dead tribute at Ale and the Witch in St. Petersburg from 7:15 to 10:30 p.m.; the band has played the Tampa Bay area for more than 37 years. Ajeva brings a two-set Halloween concert to the Blueberry Patch in Gulfport at 8 p.m., a funk and experimental rock group that has played Suwannee Hulaween and shared stages with Pigeons Playing Ping Pong and The Disco Biscuits. Tickets are $20.
Also Saturday, British techno producer Eli Brown plays The RITZ in Ybor City from 10 p.m. to 3 a.m. with costumes encouraged. Admission is $38 and the show is 21 and over.
Sunday closes with Mixtura at the New Tampa Performing Arts Center, a 3 to 5 p.m. program of original compositions and arrangements by bassist and composer Alejandro Arenas. The concert draws on his immigrant experience in the United States, with an all-star band of fellow U.S. immigrants. Tickets run $20 to $28.
Ticket sources listed for the week include Prekindle, the Mahaffey Theater, Facebook, Blueberry Patch, Sunset Events and NTPAC.
