Branford High School volleyball player Anabella Dicks guided her team to a decisive three-set victory over Liberty County on Monday, securing a spot in the Class 1A state championship match.
The Buccaneers defeated the Bulldogs 25-23, 25-22, and 25-22 in a contest that required sustained concentration from both squads. Each set remained close until the final points, with Liberty County challenging the defending state champions throughout the match.
Dicks, the senior team captain, provided consistent leadership and crucial plays during the closing moments of every frame. Her performance helped Branford maintain composure under pressure, a trait that has defined their postseason campaign.
The win improves Branford's season record to 29-1 and advances them to the state title game for the second consecutive year. Head coach Hank Rone, who is in his first season with the Lady Bucs, moves one win away from earning back-to-back state titles in his coaching career.
The championship match is scheduled for Wednesday afternoon at Polk State College in Winter Haven. First serve is set for 1:00 p.m. Eastern Time.
