The accused gunman in a weekend shooting near Florida A&M University’s Bragg Stadium appeared in court on Monday. Anthony Rivers III, 15, is scheduled to be charged as an adult in the case.

Rivers faces 11 counts of attempted second-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a delinquent. Judge Andrew Sheeran approved a Tallahassee Police Department request to seal the arrest records. State Attorney Jack Campbell stated that sealing the records is necessary because the investigation is ongoing.

“So we can tell whether someone is being truthful with us, we hold some of [the information] back,” Campbell said. He noted that detectives are still collecting evidence and interviewing witnesses. The office urged residents to contact the police with photos or video of the incident.

“Even if you don’t realize you caught something on film, even if you don’t realize one of your kids or family members saw something that was relevant, we want to understand all of it. We want to get justice for this community,” Campbell said. He added that he has only reviewed part of the available video footage.

Campbell expressed frustration over the lack of working surveillance cameras in the area. He attributed the gap to past decisions by local leaders that slowed video capabilities. “I wish I had it all on video. I think this is a real representative example of the fact that we need to recognize that surveillance, particularly in situations like this, is incredibly valuable,” he said.

The shooting injured a dozen people, including several children. One victim remains in critical condition. The next court date has not yet been announced.
