Ocala residents who purchased fresh produce or deli items at 1010 SW 1st Avenue will no longer find the shop open for business. Ocala Fresh Produce & Deli ceased operations on Monday, Nov. 2, ending a twelve-year run in the downtown area. The closure leaves the storefront empty but does not stop the sale of the establishment’s signature soups and sandwiches, which are still served at the Ocala Downtown Diner at 816 S. Magnolia Avenue.

The decision to close followed a rapid sequence of announcements. On Friday, Oct. 30, the business told customers it would be closed until further notice. Two days later, on Sunday, Nov. 1, owners confirmed the permanent shutdown in a post shared on social media. The statement identified escalating operational expenses and higher product prices as primary drivers behind the final decision.

The owner attributed the closure to a combination of financial pressures and a shifting economic climate. “Rising operating costs, increasing product prices, and changes in the business environment have made it increasingly difficult to continue operating,” the statement read. The message expressed gratitude to patrons who shopped at the location for the past decade and a half, noting that their support meant more than the team realized.

The deli operated directly across the street from the Ocala Diner, a sister restaurant. Despite the permanent closure of the produce market, the menu items remain accessible to the public at the Ocala Downtown Diner. This arrangement allows customers to continue ordering the same food products while the physical storefront at SW 1st Avenue awaits its next tenant.

The announcement indicated that the building itself will remain active. “While this chapter is closing for me, the location will have a new chapter of its own,” the statement concluded. Owners noted that a new business is planned for the space and asked residents to watch for updates regarding the future tenant. The deli’s last day of operation was Monday, Nov. 2.

The closure marks the end of a long-standing local business that served the Ocala community for twelve years. The specific details of the new tenant have not been released. The Ocala Downtown Diner continues to serve the deli’s full lineup of soups and sandwiches at its current location on S. Magnolia Avenue.
