The 2026 midterm elections will determine the composition of the United States Congress and influence the final two years of President Donald Trump's administration. Millions of voters will cast ballots on Tuesday, with Democrats and Republicans competing in close races nationwide. Several states will also elect new governors. To help viewers follow these contests, CNN is deploying a mix of traditional broadcast coverage and new digital tools.

Television coverage will begin at 4 p.m. ET with a special program called Election Night in America. Anderson Cooper and Jake Tapper will co-anchor the broadcast from Washington, D.C. They will be joined by analysts Dana Bash, Kaitlan Collins, and Erin Burnett. General election updates will start earlier in the day at 12 a.m. ET on both the main channel and the streaming service All Access.

Subscribers to CNN's streaming platform, All Access, will receive 12 hours of live, unedited content starting at 7 a.m. ET. This feed provides a behind-the-scenes look at reporters working in the field. In the evening, the stream will move into campaign headquarters to show candidates and supporters as they await results. John Berman and Harry Enten will host a segment called Office Hours at 7 p.m. ET to answer viewer questions. The service also includes a library of past episodes from shows like CNN Explains and The Enten Scale.

Viewers can track races using an interactive map available on the CNN app and website. This tool, referred to as the Magic Wall, allows users to zoom in to the county level. App subscribers can compare current results with historical data from previous election cycles. They can also activate real-time notifications for specific races. The website version includes features to track poll closing times and follow ballot measures. It also provides voter polls to show how different demographic groups are voting.

CNN has introduced a new tool called Sightline to help viewers understand how to interpret election data. The tool uses modeling and assessments from CNN's Decision Desk to provide a real-time view of race outcomes. It answers specific questions about where votes are coming from and how they compare to pre-election expectations. The system evaluates the statistical confidence of its estimates and distinguishes between Election Day, by-mail, and early in-person votes. Sightline produces an overall rating on whether a race leans toward a specific candidate.

The network will also provide live updates across its digital platforms. Correspondents will share photos and videos from polling places and candidate events. These updates will cover voting issues, legal challenges, and reactions from lawmakers. CNN will issue immediate alerts when polls close, when the network projects a winner in a key race, and when candidates deliver victory or concession speeches. Journalists will offer live commentary and analysis as results arrive, providing context for the night's major developments.
