Apple adds M6 chips to iMac lineup

Apple has introduced an iMac with M6 chips, the first 2nm chip the company has ever produced. This new iMac includes new features such as Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6, and the base model now comes with Apple’s N1 wireless networking chip. The M6 chips deliver up to 5x faster on-device AI performance compared to the previous model.

The new iMac starts at $1,499 for the model with a 10-core CPU and a 10-core GPU. The M6 iMac will be available starting November 6th, with preorders beginning on October 28th. However, customers may face some new restrictions and fees. A Magic Trackpad costs an extra $50, and a 2.5 gigabit Ethernet upgrade is a $30 premium.

Apple has not introduced new color options for the iMac, sticking with the same variants as the M4 model. The new iMac has largely unchanged design and hardware, with some updated marketing imagery for the M6 chip. The company did not update the number of Thunderbolt ports, as the 10-core version still only includes two, and the 12-core upgrade has four.

The M6 chip provides a nice performance boost, but otherwise this is a small spec bump for Apple’s colorful all-in-one computer. The update was announced ahead of Apple’s “Pro and Tell” event that’s scheduled to take place on Wednesday.

The new iMac is now available for pre-order, and will be fully available starting November 6th. The price of the iMac has remained the same as the previous model, at $1,499 for the base model.

The update was announced ahead of Apple’s “Pro and Tell” event that’s scheduled to take place on Wednesday.
